O'Neil was a student at high-school when she auditioned in 2005 to be a part of the third Canadian Idol season. She made it to the 100th round since the judges were impressed at her singing performances. O'Neil was praised highly from jury. However, she suffered massive losses during the Top 10 week as well as the Top 9 week of the finals. She was placed on the third row, followed by the in the bottom two.
